IELTS Speaking Test - Sample 3

✔ (Rated ★★★)

Part 1 - Introduction

Q. Good afternoon. My name is Vinnie Pham. Could I have your name, please?
A. Good afternoon Sir. My name is Thuan Tran and my nickname is Ty.

Q. And your candidate number?
A. My candidate number is VN55555

Thank you. That's fine. Uh, now, in the first part of the test, I'd like to ask you some questions about your friends

Q. Are your friends mostly your age or different ages? Why?
A. Most of my friends are my own age. But yes, I have few friends who are senior to me and I can remember having 2-3 friends who are younger than I am. Basically, most of my friends are from my college and that’s why naturally they are contemporary to my age. I have few friends from my neighborhood and they became my friends mostly because we played together and shared the common interest. Somehow in my locality, young people prefer playmates of their ages. This is one of the main reasons they belong to my age group.

Q. Do you usually see your friends during the week or at weekends? Why?
A. That depends, and I see my college friends 7 days a week as we have classes together. I see them on the weekend as well since we plan our holidays together very often. The friends who are already doing jobs mostly meet me on their weekends.

Q. The last time you saw your friends, what did you do together?
A. Recently I went to watch a movie in a nearby movie theater with my friends. The Galaxy Cinema - Nguyễn Du was showing a recent Hollywood movie and we planned to watch it together. On that day we also had our lunch together in a fast food chain shop and we also talked about the recent European Football league final game. Apart from that, we planned to attend a seminar that is likely to be arranged by our college and we agreed to do so on that day.

Q. In what ways are your friends important to you?
A. My friends are very significant to me in many ways. Firstly they share many common interests that I have and that’s why I enjoy a lot talking to them and spending time with them. I never feel bored or get out of topics while I am with them and having a conversation or simply chitchatting. They are indeed very good friends of mine as they have often raised their helping hands in my crisis time.

My friends often plan activities that I find very exciting. They share their class notes and study materials with me and that’s very helpful for my studies. In fact, friends are the persons with whom we can share everything and my friends listen to my thoughts very attentively. I play with them, study with them, share my thoughts and opinion and that’s why they have a very special place in my life.

Part 2 - Cue Card

Topic:
Describe an interesting historic place.

You should say:
  • what it is
  • where it is located
  • what you can see there now
and explain why this place is interesting.

Model Answer:

I am going to talk about Imperial Citadel and & tomb Architecture.
Hue is one of the main cultural, religious and educational centers of Vietnam. So far, Hue remains to be the only originally historical vestiges city in Vietnam. Many of Hue’s attractions are found along the banks of the romantically named Perfume River with 11km length. This valuable construction includes more than 100 architectural works, which are the reflection of the life of Emperors and mandarins under Nguyen’s reign.

Architecture in Hue is the combination of royal architect, folk, religious ones, traditional and modern sides. On December 11th, 1993, it was classified by UNESCO as the world cultural heritage. On the north bank of the river is the Imperial Citadel, built along the line of Peking’s Forbidden City, enclosed by 10-metre thick walls and surrounded by a moat. A few kilometers further up the river are perhaps Hue’s best-known religious site. Inside the citadel, there are still wonders. For example, the seat of the Nguyen emperors occupying a large, walled area on the north side of the river. Inside the citadel was a forbidden city where only the concubines, emperors, and those close enough to them were granted access, the punishment for trespassing was death penalty.

If you like something mysterious and valuable architectural, you should take a visit to the tombs of ancient Kings. Situated in the middle of the hills on the Southern bank of Perfume River are very beautiful tombs of Nguyen Kings. Among these tombs are the four famous ones with the name and the arrangements of the tomb reflecting each Emperor’s points of view, personality, and tastes. This is majestic Gia Long tomb, imposing Minh Mang tomb, poetic Tu Duc tomb, and magnificent Khai Dinh tomb. No architects who would like to discover the ancient architecture of Vietnam could ignore Hue’s old citadel vestiges.
